Somalia: Somali Troops Clash in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Benadir residents have been calling to have their own state formed as insecurity rises in the capital.

Mogadishu – At least three soldiers were killed and eight others were injured in a clash between Somali federal government forces in Hodan district of Benadir region.

The fighting erupted after an misunderstanding between military and police forces near Digfer Hospital in Mogadishu.

The military was reportedly in a patrol vehicle when the clashes erupted as police at Bar-Control and tried to stop the troops, thus a shootout ensued after.

The three soldiers killed in the clashes were reported to be from both sides of the conflict while the eight wounded included soldiers and civilians.

So far no details have been released by Hodan district administration as well as security officials, and the situation has now returned calm.

Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, has been the scene of a series of deadly clashes between government forces and many feel that Benadir Region not having it’s own State-elected leadership is the reason behind the insecurity in the capital.
